Goondiwindi Council Project: Enhancing Macintyre River’s Embankment Resilience

Project

Everest Civil has been awarded the Brennans Road Riverbank Restoration Project by the Goondiwindi Council. The project aims to remediate a section of the embankment along the Macintyre River that was damaged due to recent floods.

scope

– Removal of Existing Gabion Rock Wall: The existing gabion rock wall was dismantled and removed to prepare the site for further construction.

– Construction of Piling Platform: A stable and secure piling platform was built to support the installation of sheet piling.

– Installation of Sheet Piling: Approximately 80 lineal meters of sheet piling were installed at the river’s edge to a depth of 11.5m. This reinforced and protected the embankment from further erosion.

– Placement of Bulk Rock and Geofabric: Bulk rock was strategically placed to provide additional stability and support to the riverbank. Geofabric was also used as a working layer to prevent erosion and improve the overall resilience of the embankment.

– Bulk Earthworks: Earthmoving activities were undertaken to reshape the landscape and prepare the site for further development.

– Importation of Select Fill: Appropriate fill material was imported and placed to raise and level the ground where necessary.

– Relocation of Electrical and Water Services: Existing electrical and water services in the project area were carefully relocated to accommodate the restoration works.

– Landscape Package: Once the piling and bulk earthworks were completed, Everest Civil undertook the landscape package, which involved restoration of the site’s natural environment.

Everest Civil is delivering the project with a 20 tonne excavator, fitted
with integrated GPS, tilt hitch and a highly experienced operator, to achieve a detailed design tolerance and high standard of delivery exceeding expected project timelines.

The project successfully remediated the damaged section of the riverbank along the Macintyre River, ensuring its stability, protection, and long-term resilience against potential future flood events.
